USQ presents Jazz, Wine & Blues
- TIME
- 1pm until late
- DATES
- Saturday 24th April
- LOCATION
- Energex Festival Stage Queens Park - the NEW location for 2010
This event has outgrown its venue and is now relocated to Queens Park.
From its genesis in 2005, USQ's Jazz Wine & Blues has earned a reputation for showcasing emerging and accomplished performers in a free, continuous 8-hour program immersed in the Festival's celebration of enjoyment and discovery.
In a single day, a hand-picked line-up of bands and artists takes us on a journey through traditional jazz and blues standards, and along the roads of acknowledgement, expression and interpretation. It is always a great time had by all!
This year, big band, masterful, contemporary and cool jazz vie with hard driving blues, guitar virtuosity and in-your-face R&B.
Visit the Festival Bar and taste a wide range of delightful wines and boutique beers.
1pm The Ipswich Big Band
Jazz as it is BIG, traditional, funky and groovy.
2pm Band Of Blue
Try to sit still when the blues is driving: a great selection of blues standards.
3pm Kim Churchil
Another 5-Star Festival discovery and a guitar technician on the brink of international acclaim.
4pm Lauren Lucille
A finely tuned choice of jazz vocal standards.
5pm The Mason Rack Band
Hold tight! Nationally acclaimed for hard-edged, foot to the floor riffs and extraordinary vocals. The roots of the blues channelled through 60s guitar heroes. Wow!
6pm Catherine Lambert
Hailing from major success in the USA, her clear, swinging vocal style was featured in the "Lost in Translation" movie soundtrack. A classic Jazz repertoire gets a polished, contemporary treatment by a consummate international performer.
7pm Herb Armstrong
Grandfather Satchmo needs no introduction - it's time to party ... and time to revisit the very roots of the Jazz scene in a truly authentic tribute. Louis would be proud of Herb's sensational septet. They belt out every major Satchmo hit, with love and respect. You'll feel like one of the family, too. If you loved Louis Armstrong's own Wonderful World, don't miss this show!
8pm Dallas Frasca
DALLAS FRASCA's unique alt-roots style is a new genre on the music landscape and has had a huge impact on the Australian music scene. While Triple J describe her as "the modern day Janis Joplin" and awarded her the Top Ten Blues and Roots album for 2009; Musicoz also this year recognised her as the Music Network ARTIST OF THE YEAR and Blues and Roots Artist of the Year. Dallas is hailed as the "Queen of Australian Roots" for very good reason - a show not to be missed!
