Based on Ken Kesey's novel, Dale Wasserman's script inspired the popular 1975 movie, starring Jack Nicholson. When the free-spirited petty crook Randle P. McMurphy arrives at the state mental hospital, his contagious sense of disorder jolts the routine. McMurphy has himself declared insane in order to serve out his sentence in a mental institution rather than go to prison.
